About Me
My name is Paula Abbott, and I live in beautiful Kennebunk, Maine. I have always been drawn to nature and to animals. When I was little, I spent every moment possible outside, exploring the woods and fields around me. In addition to the landscape itself, I was fascinated with animals, always seeking them out wherever I could. It didn’t matter whether they were people’s pets, wild animals here at home, exotic animals in zoos, or little insects, reptiles, and amphibians around us. As I grew older, I also became more interested in cultural history. I was captivated with the people, belief systems, and sacred places around the world throughout time. Today, I still find the world around us enchanting. Whether it’s natural landscapes untouched by man or cultural landscapes with some indication of mankind’s influence, whether it’s wild or tame animals, big or microscopic, I find potential subject matter for my lens in all of it. I love this planet we call home and cherish every moment I am able to spend encompassed by its beauty.
About My Photos
You can find my favorite images exhibited in Showcase. This is an ever-evolving collection, showing only ten photographs at a time. All the photographs found throughout this site are available for sale. The only exception to that is my blog, which features low-resolution images to illustrate the story or particular point I’m trying to make. The high-quality versions of the blog photos that are for sale are located in Photo Gallery.
Photo Gallery is arranged into smaller galleries based on content. This allows for easier navigation to search for photos based on subject matter. Once you click on an individual photo within a gallery, you will see the caption, which shows the location where the photograph was made as well as a unique identification number (file name). There is also a search feature at the top right of every page. You can search by keyword or for a specific photograph using that image's file name.
Quixotic Expressions is a place for me to explore new approaches to photography as well as more specialized focus areas. There is a gallery where you will find my black and white images. There is one for twilight and night photography, and another for macro photography. There is another gallery for abstract photography, which includes images with unconventional focus and kaleidoscopes of color. The final gallery is for photos that had some sort of artistic manipulation applied within Photoshop to give the impression of a painting or sketch.
Technical Jargon
Fine art prints are available for sale and may be purchased directly through this site. Print options range from standard photographic paper or specialty watercolor paper to metal or canvas. Please be aware that the medium chosen for printing can result in slight differences from how you viewed the image onscreen. This is due to monitor calibration variances, the physical attributes of the items, and the printing process required for each. None of the photographs are available as digital downloads directly from the website. However, if you are interested in using any images for publication, please feel free to contact me to discuss.
